Golf Rules Of Play: The Fundamentals In Playing Golf

Rules exist for a reason. As a matter of fact, they provide order in an arena which tends to be chaotic or disorganized.

Consequently, with the application of rules and their eventual enforcement, they make sure that each person stays in their place and respects the rights of others which usually results in harmonious co-existence among members of civilized society.

Incidentally, the same principle also applies to the sport of golf. Inherent in every sport is the spirit of competition.

Since it is expected that the players will exert all their best effort to get ahead from their competitors, to level the playing field and to ensure that there is a semblance of discipline and order, there has to be certain golf rules of play.

If you are a budding golf player, more so if you are a beginner, it would work to your advantage of you are familiar with the basic golf rules of play. This is not to burden you with certain bureaucratic golf stuff but to keep you informed about the do’s and don’ts when you play golf.

These golf rules of play will keep you on your toes and ensure that you are well within the bounds of ethics lest you might get overpowered by your competitive self that you border on breaking rules in the name of victory.

As a newbie to the exciting sport of golf, the following the fundamental rules that you need to be acquainted if you want to excel in your chosen sport:

1. Each golf player is generally allowed a total of fourteen golf clubs at the maximum. That said, it would work to your benefit if at the onset, you count the number of golf clubs that you have.

2. It is imperative that you tee off only in the designated spot. This is a practical suggestion because if you fail in your tee or if your tee is slightly out of line, you may be requested to redo your tee. This is particularly significant because you may be subjected to certain penalties depending on whether or not your tee was done during match play or stroke play.

3. Always hit the golf ball. This tip is helpful especially for those who are just beginning to learn the ropes of playing golf. For the newbies, please note that it is prohibited to actually push or spoon the golf ball.  You have to hit the ball at all times.
